El grosor de una tabla de surf influye mucho en el rendimiento global. El grosor, así como la repartición del grosor a lo largo de la tabla, influye sobre la flotabilidad de la tabla, y su facilidad de remar. El punto más grueso de una tabla de surf se suele encontrar en medio de la tabla, y va disminuyendo a medida que nos acercamos a las extremidades. Todas las marcas tienen sus propios modelos de tablas evolutivas y malibus con diferentes tamaños para que se adapten a la altura y el peso de cada surfero.
